At the MSHSL 2024 Visual Arts Section Contest-Festival in Little Falls, MN, MHS visual artists demonstrated their artistic talents, earning superior and excellent rankings. Among them, Ava Paszkiewicz a senior received superior rankings in sculpture and 2D mixed media, both entries are moving on to the State Showcase on May 11. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud

On April 26, Moorhead Area Public Schools welcomed Patty Hand, Chief Operating Officer of the Minnesota Department of Education, for tours of the newly constructed Moorhead High School and the Moorhead High School Career Academy. Patty had the opportunity to explore the recently opened phase one building of Moorhead High School, which started welcoming students in January. Additionally, she visited the Moorhead High School Career Academy, established in 2021, where students from grades 9 to 12 participate in hands-on learning and career exploration. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud


Robert Asp Elementary held a Day of Compassion, featuring a full-day retreat with various small and large group teamwork activities. These activities aimed to teach skills in kindness, compassion, and empathy. Over 30 high school volunteers, along with Asp teachers and staff, participated in this event. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud

Riley Dickhaus makes the play at second base during Baseball's 2024 season opener against Minnetonka. Carter Heinsch smashed a second-inning home run and Cullen Wilson spun a complete game on the mound as the Spuds sprang a 9-4 upset on the Skippers, who came into the season ranked #3 in Class AAAA by MN Baseball Hub. Next up, Moorhead travels to Sartell on Friday to face the Sabres.

CELEBRATING 150 YEARS: Paula Bauck, a PE teacher in Moorhead Area Public Schools from 1958 to 1983, was instrumental in launching interscholastic girls' sports in Moorhead and statewide. Before Title IX in 1972, she championed girls' athletics, gaining recognition from state leaders and setting the stage for progress in Minnesota.

In the media center of Horizon Middle School West, students of all ages gathered every Tuesday and Thursday throughout April. Their purpose? To partake in a read-along event led by media specialist Daniel Dooher, With Dave Eggers' book "The Eyes and the Impossible," winner of the 2024 John Newbery Medal.

#WeAreProud of Eleanor Culloton, a Moorhead High School Chorale Choir member. Eleanor was recognized with the We Are Proud award for her selection to the Minnesota Music Educators Associations All-State Choir. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud
Congratulations to the Spuds Speech team for clinching their 8th consecutive AA state title! Three Spuds also secured individual state titles. Moorhead's performance earned them 19 medals, just one shy of the all-time State record, and matched their team-high achievement set in 2015. Their 98 sweepstakes points equaled both program and league records set in 2022. 🗣️ #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud
