As the new MHS opens, Mrs. Fisher's Special Education Art class has been utilizing the Learning Stairs to explore the world of musical theater. The Learning Stairs provide a new, ideal space for the class to engage in their creative activities. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud


On December 13, Horizon West hosted 2,500 5th Graders from across the metro area for The Learning Bank Assembly featuring FM Kicks. Students got the opportunity to participate in performances and listen to different groups. 🎼🎶 #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud

Establishing Moorhead's Nordic Ski team in 2015, Tom Dooher led the team until his retirement last season. He continues to be the program's biggest supporter. Under Tom's leadership, the team achieved its first section championship in 2020, sending a skier to nationals. Now, he has handed the reins to the program's second coach. Last week brought a delightful surprise as Mrs. Claus dropped by to spend time with our Jumpstart Spuds! She read a story to the students and sweetened the occasion by handing out candy canes. 🤶#OnceASpudAlwaysASpud


Horizon staff and students together made over 140 fleece blankets for the Joy Project! All blankets will be donated to families experiencing homelessness and other difficulties this holiday season. 🧡🖤 #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud



Sixth-grade scientists at Horizon West are investigating the factors behind the annual growth of Mt. Everest by 2cm and its movement by 4cm. They utilized food items to simulate various plate interactions as part of their simulations. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud

The Academic Wing Preview event for Phase 1 of the new Moorhead High School drew an enthusiastic response, with nearly 1,000 pre-registrations for tours during the December 17 event. To accommodate the extra interest, Moorhead Area Public Schools (MAPS) extended the event by 30 minutes and added nine additional tour groups, resulting in approximately 1,300 community members exploring the new academic spaces. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud

MAPS added virtual author visits this year; our K-6 students have enjoyed hearing from many of their favorite authors. On December 8, Clara, a student at Probstfield Elementary, got her question selected for author Jon Klassen to answer live, which was viewed by hundreds of schools around the country. #OnceASpudAlwaysASpud
