Happy Children's Day! This week, 1st grade is learning all about the Japanese celebration of Children's Day. We discuss history, koi fish symbolism and resilience, and then dive into creating these awesome koi no bori wind socks!

Last week, 3rd Grade learned about artist Jim Denomie and his artistic style. He is a contemporary Ojibwe artist based out of his studio, Wabooz Studio, in Minnesota! After learning about Jim and his style, artists created their own rabbits inspired by his work using warm and cool colors. To finish our artwork, we practiced monotype printmaking for the background. Nice job third grade!

Our kindergarten classes are doing an ABC countdown to the last day of school. Friday was "B" and we made GIANT BUBBLES outside!



Our final book fair of the year is May 3 and 4 after school from 1:40-6 p.m. in the Black Gym. Please enter through the door by the playground. Everything is Buy One, Get One Free! Masks, sanitizing and distancing will apply.

This week, 4th grade at Ellen Hopkins is getting anamorphic! Practicing our hyper-realism and illusion artwork, 4th grade artists create a pencil that goes through their own hand. You may wonder how they do it..but a magician never reveals their secret. - Ivy Mattson, Art Teacher




Our first grade scientists were busy observing and recording rocks this week.





Sra. Gonzalez's Kindergarten class created incredible snail trail paintings inspired by their own snail sculptures and the artist Jackson Pollock. Artists started with only primary colors, but ended up with a whole rainbow. Check these out! - Ivy Mattson, Art Teacher
