Horizon Middle School's eighth-grade orchestra is ✨one of five✨ selected to play at the state honors concert on Monday, April 4! 👏 Students will play at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis and learn from members of the Minnesota Orchestra. The eighth-grade orchestra is made up of 87 members and taught by Brian Cole and Josh Biles.

Swing batter batter ⚾ Spuds baseball scrimmaged at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis last week! This unique opportunity was set up by Spuds coach Greg Salvevold and East Ridge Raptors coach Brian Sprout. Brian and Greg were teammates on the FM Redhawks almost 20 years ago! The Spuds first official game is in Sartell against the Sabres on April 7. #GoSpuds

The Minnesota Department of Commerce has awarded Horizon West Middle School and Probstfield Elementary grants totaling $204,000! This is a part of the Solar for Schools program in an effort to create renewable energy and reduce costs. 🌎 In addition, the program provides beneficial learning opportunities for students.

Her favorite place for a tasty treat is Moorhead Freez. 🍦 She enjoys relaxing by the lake and watching the sunrise in the summer. 🌅 And her dream vacation is somewhere near the ocean! 🌊
Our speech team is spectacular! 🗫 We hosted the Northern Lights National Qualifiers competition on March 18. Fourteen of our speech students qualified for Nationals! They will compete June 12-17 in Louisville, Kentucky. #SpudPride
It’s Youth Art Month! 🎨 Students at Horizon Middles School are showcasing their art at the Plains Art Museum. This exhibit hosts over 40 area schools and it's the 20th consecutive year they’ve hosted this event! Now this is what teamwork is all about! 🧡 Recently, industrial technology teacher Jeff Schneider volunteered his time to create a custom mobility base for a p-pod bean bag. The bean bag provides students with postural support in an alternative seating option. Mobility bases for this specialty equipment can be over $1,500 and he was able to use the space at the Moorhead High School Career Academy to make it for a fraction of the price. #SpudPride
Head Coach Ryan Kraft and Assistant Coach Greg Salvevold were named the 8AA Girls Head and Assistant coaches of the year! 🏆 This annual Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association award is given to outstanding coaches who show good sportsmanship, display professionalism, make contributions to better girls' high school hockey and more. Congratulations Ryan and Greg! #GoSpuds
Good luck to the boys basketball team as they take on Wayzata today at 4 p.m. in the state quarterfinals! 🏀 2012 was the last time the Spuds claimed the section title and headed off to state, when Head Coach Matt Ellingson was on the team.
