Since Tia's completion, there are 7 more of her classmates who have also taken one or more of their official GED tests at the Certified Pearson VUE Testing Center located at Vista.
All Moorhead public and non-public schools, including Community Education classes, are closed February 27. Moorhead Area Public School students in grades E-12 are required to complete an eLearning day. All before-school, after-school and evening activities are canceled.
Moorhead Adult Education students are very grateful for the additional 1:1 time that the MSUM Dragon Education Majors are providing. The two different student groups are enjoying learning about one another and supporting each other on their respective academic journeys.
Moorhead Adult Education students are welcome to participate in a number of free computer classes. Instructor Rebecca Lee-Hunt teaches these classes each Monday morning at Vista Center for Education. In addition to teacher-led courses, students may also engage in an independent study format of over a dozen course options. Upon completion of each course, students take proctored assessments. Those demonstrating proficiency earn certificates.

Today our English Language Learners discovered hot apple cider. This delicious warm drink was an exciting new experience. One student went to the whiteboard to try to map out the difference between apple juice and apple cider for his classmates. Days like today bring warm fuzzies to the hearts, minds, and stomachs of the Moorhead Adult Education team.
The Moorhead Adult Education team attended the 2023 ABE Fall Regional event in Bemidji on October 5-6, 2023. The event afforded multiple options for professional development in teaching English, digital literacy, and High School Equivalency content. Moorhead instructor, Casey Hatlevoll, led a session on math practices and Tammy Schatz facilitated a session for the regional manager team.
A highlight for Adult Education Week was the recognition of the first graduate of the Clay County Correctional Facility ABE program. Jared was able to complete his General Equivalency Development (GED) diploma in a very short time. Thank you to Sheriff Mark Empting and the Clay County Correctional team for supporting this work!
The "Adult Education Week" celebration continues at Vista Center for Education. Today we are enjoying refreshments and showing a few examples of how the volunteers in the program impact our learners. Samantha is leading a small group of evening beginning ESL students and Susan is teaching a multi-level art experience class to the ESL and High School Equivalency classrooms. Moorhead Adult Education offers free digital literacy (computer) classes to all enrolled students. This includes teacher-led and independent study models of instruction in: keyboarding basics, Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows, Mac OS, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Social Media, Information Literacy, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Career Search Skills, and Your Digital Footprint. Adult Education Week is September 17-23, 2023 and an opportunity to share the message of what this work looks like within our region.
Volunteers are a tremendous asset to the students and staff of the Moorhead consortium and are trained to assist in various capacities. This includes 1:1 tutoring, leading a small group, teaching a class, preparing student materials for the teacher, or assisting in the office.
