It is an honor to have Moorhead Adult Education Instructors recognized by the Hamline University (ATLAS) staff for a job well done! Casey Hatlevoll and Matt Dehmer have spent the 2024-2025 school year working with the Hamline University team to lead Adult Education programs across the state of Minnesota in the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS) in Math and English Language Arts. We are proud of Casey and Matt!

Congratulations to our most recent GED graduate who passed their math test last night! Math is often the subject that students put off until last because they feel like it's the most challenging; however, the Moorhead Adult Education team can support individuals at all math levels. There are online homework programs that students can access from a smartphone as well as day and evening times with 1:1 help in the classroom to get them ready to pass that math test!

Congratulations, Dayna! She gave herself the best birthday present ever by taking her final GED test to earn her diploma from the Minnesota Department of Education. We are very proud of you, Dayna!

Staff and students had the opportunity to engage with a multitude of community resources this week. Checking out library books, exploring a variety of career pathways within the Essentia Healthcare system, learning about operating a home childcare program, and engaging with our CareerForce program were just a few of the opportunities we enjoyed.

Students in the High School Equivalency (HSE) classroom at Vista Center for Education divide their time between independent study, in-person classes, online class, and engaging with customized online homework offsite. Each student has a personalized education plan to support their unique goals. During this lesson, the students were skilling up on topic sentences and test-taking strategies.

These Moorhead Adult Education team members attended the 2025 Language & Literacy Institute in Bloomington, MN last week. Along with 250+ other ABE colleagues across the state, they attended sessions on reading, writing, digital tools, and other best practices in working with adults in the classroom. Thank you to Melinda, Mellisa, Rebecca, Casey, Matt, and Tammy for your dedication to our learners!

The Moorhead Adult Education team works hard to connect our students with resources in the community. Sometimes that is promoting events happening outside of the building and other times its inviting service providers or speakers in. Thank you to all of the community collaborators who make this possible!

Volunteers are one of the best parts of this program. Individuals who volunteer with Moorhead Adult Education receive both initial and ongoing training that is specific to the classrooms that they are assigned to. We so are grateful for their commitment to serving our students!.A big shout-out to Chris and Cindy who attended a special volunteer training this week! Contact Tammy at tschatz@moorheadschools.org if you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities with us.

The LARL Pop-up Library at Vista was a huge success! Barb and the ABE staff worked to get dozens of students a new library card . Individuals were able take home multiple books to enjoy on a cold winter day. This event will be repeated on the first Wednesday of the month for both the morning and evening classes.

Did you know that MATBUS (Route 9) stops at the Vista Center for Education building at the :20 of the hour? Our Adult Education staff have completed the MATBUS Travel Trainer course which equips them with the knowledge to assist students in navigating the bus system. Talk to one of our team if you need some help getting started using the bus. Several of our daytime students take advantage of this warm ride getting to and from school.
