ASP Weekly Family Note

Asp Families,

Happy Sunday! There are only two weeks left of school this year, which means this is the second to last weekly email! We know that brings major sadness, but no worries, we’ll send a couple this summer and then roll with them again in the fall! Haha, maybe sadness is too strong of a description, but for sure the lack of weekly emails will be just one part of the changing routine for all families as we transition into summer. Changing routines, both at home and at school, can be a cause of frustration for many students and adults. We’re working hard to keep as many of our routines in place at school the last weeks, and would encourage the same from you at home. Some other notes for the week:

  • Weekly Focus: This week we’re going to continue focusing on Finishing Strong, while also taking Pride in Robert Asp. We’ll connect both to the 4 BEs as we encourage students to remember the lessons they’ve learned this year:

    • BEing KIND by treating others with kindness in our words and actions, including all peers and adults

    • BEing RESPONSIBLE by working hard in all activities, transitioning quickly and calmly in the hallways, and using De-Bugging when frustrated

    • BEing RESPECTFUL by following directions & expectations from all adults

    • BEing SAFE by keeping our hands, feet, and other objects to ourselves, whether inside or outside

  • Library Books: First, a huge thank you to all students and families who have returned library books already this year. We don’t have many that are still checked out, but definitely more than we’d like. Please help your child check for books at home in their backpacks, in any bedrooms, in between couch cushions, under couches, in dog beds, in treehouses, or any other unique spot in which your child loves to read. Once you find them, please return them in their backpacks. Thank you for the help.

  • Asp Website: Even though there are only two weeks left, it’s a great time for a reminder about our school/district website. Our News page includes every one of these weekly emails from the school year. The Live Feed features our Spud of the Week students and other fun activities from the school year. And the Events page has every upcoming event listed, and will continue to throughout the summer!

  • Last Day: Our last day of school is next Friday, May 30. PLEASE NOTE - We are again releasing 2 hours early across the district that day for graduation. This means that our school day ends at 12:30 pm on that Friday! We’re having our annual Asp Block Party as a school that day and will make sure all students have time to eat lunch by noon.

  • Clap Out: On the last day we’ll also Clap Out our 4th graders. Parents are welcome to watch and help Clap Out as well, starting in our lobby and then onto the sidewalk in front of the building. We’ll start at about 12:05, so plan accordingly! This is always a Wow! Event!

  • Events This Week:

    • K-Kids will be going to the Hjemkomst and a nursing home

    • 3rd grade has their track meet at Asp

    • 1st grade will be going to Chahinkapa Zoo

As always, if you have any questions, your child’s teacher is the first, best resource. Check their newsletters/emails, and email them if you have any questions. Please also reach out to them (with plenty of lead time) if you have any changes in end of the day routines. And if you have changed cell numbers, please let them know. Thank you!!
