Robert Asp Elementary

Asp Families,

Happy Spring! Or maybe more appropriately, Happy Winter?!?! As you are aware, we have a weather system starting today and continuing into Tuesday that might affect school this week, so please pay attention to your email, texts, and social media channels for updates. As of this morning nothing has been announced, but that could change by the time this goes out at 3:00 pm or even after we send this email. Again, it really depends on what the system does. And given that lack of certainty, plus the fact it’s a weekend, we did NOT send any chromebooks or eLearning plans home last Friday. So stay tuned!

Other notes for the week:

  • Weekly Focus: Grit and perseverance will be our focus this week. We’ll talk about what it means to have grit and how it helps us persevere through difficult situations, whether at school with academics, friendships, etc, as well as at home.

  • Planned ‘No School’ Days: Regardless of the weather, there will not be school this Friday, March 29 or next Monday, April 1.

  • Excel: Depending on weather, there WILL be Excel on Tuesday, March 26. However, there will NOT be Excel on Thursday, March 28 due to the long weekend.

  • Cafeteria: We continue to work with all students on expectations in the cafeteria, which includes kind language towards peers and adults, hands to self, and food on trays or in mouths. Additionally, our 4th graders started what we hope is a new yearly tradition at Asp, which is naming our cafeteria. All 4th grade classes submitted a couple of name ideas, and then all 4th grade students voted on their top choice. There were a lot of creative, fun options, but the winner (with twice as many votes as 2nd place) was Cafe McSpuds! We’ll refer to it as that for the rest of this year, and then next year we’ll have our new 4th graders provide a name for it!

  • Kindergarten Enrollment: It’s now open across the district! If you—or a family member, friend or neighbor—have a child who will be five years old by September 1, 2024, they are eligible to start kindergarten next school year. Registration is now open on the district website, and it's a quick process that can be completed on your phone, computer or other internet-connected device. Also, mark your calendar for Keys to Kindergarten on April 18 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Asp. We can’t wait to see you!

  • Community Ed Classes: If you haven’t checked out Community Ed classes previously, this would be a great time to do it! Spring/Summer classes are available now, so check them out online. There are many great opportunities like track camp for grades K-2 and grades 3-6. Check it out and sign up for something that interests you!

Again, keep your eyes and ears open for weather related announcements from the district today! Stay warm and stay safe!
