Keys to Kindergarten 2024

Each year as Moorhead grows, our staff excitedly welcomes a new set of kindergarteners to our elementary schools. Our elementary schools are hosting an event on Thursday, April 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. for students who are registered to start kindergarten this fall to get a personalized introduction to their buildings and staff.

Keys for Kindergarten helps families prepare for Kindergarten.

Keys to Kindergarten offers children important school readiness activities that improve academic, social and emotional skills. This class is for children living in the Moorhead School District who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall of 2024 and their parents or guardians. Registration is required.

Our staff know there are many questions families have before their child's first day of school. What does a school day look like? What supports are available at school? How can I prepare my child for the transition to a full day of school? This will be a great opportunity for Kindergarten families to see their elementary school, meet staff and teachers, and discuss any questions or concerns you might have.

During the event, elementary staff cover multiple topics, including:

  • Welcome from your school principal

  • Food Services (lunch, snack and milk break, free and reduced programs and more)

  • Transportation (riding the bus, areas of services and more)

  • Health Services (required vaccinations, medication forms and more)

  • How to prepare your child for kindergarten

How do I help my child attend?

  • The first step is to ensure your child is registered for Kindergarten. If you have not yet done so, complete the registration steps: Kindergarten Enrollment

  • Next, register to attend Keys for Kindergarten. Mark your calendar and don’t miss out on Thursday, April 18 from 6-7:30 p.m.

  • The event is available at each Moorhead elementary school (Robert Asp, Ellen Hopkins, S.G. Reinertsen, and Dorothy Dodds).

When registering for the event, please choose the elementary building closest to your residence or if you know which building your child will attend, you may choose that one.
