Moorhead Area Public Schools is seeking applications from members of the community to serve on a newly formed Equity and Inclusion Advisory Council.

As Moorhead Area Public Schools works to develop the maximum potential of every learner to thrive in a changing world, it is important to work collaboratively with our community to promote educational equity. To provide a premier education for every learner to achieve success, we must provide a safe and nurturing environment that celebrates diversity and practices mutual respect.

Educational equity is the condition of justice, fairness, inclusion and cultural responsiveness in our systems of education so that all students have access to the opportunities to learn and develop to their fullest potential. The pursuit of education equity recognizes the historical conditions and barriers that have prevented opportunity and success in learning for students based on their races, ethnicities, incomes and other social conditions.

The role of the council will be to collect information and advise on human rights compliance at the state and local level, support School Board policy and procedures regarding diversity, inclusion and human rights; issue recommendations and guidance encouraging integration of diversity, equity and human rights principles and standards when creating new policies and legislation and research, advocate and educate the public and school district employees regarding diversity, equity and human rights.

Community members interested in this opportunity are encouraged to complete the application by February 2. To request a paper copy of the application contact tabraham@moorheadschools.org or call 218-284-3372.
