Chantz Rud and his 1970 C10 featured on the Built Not Bought series

Moorhead High School Career Academy’s own automotive instructor, Chantz Rud, is taking his passion for horsepower from the shop floor to the screen. Rud was recently featured on the popular auto enthusiast platform Reborn as part of their "Built Not Bought" video series, which highlights the stories behind unique vehicle builds and the people who create them.

The spotlight on Rud centers around his personal project: a classic dark gray 1970 Chevrolet C10 pickup. While the truck is a masterpiece of vintage engineering and personal dedication, its most significant role isn’t on the open road or at the track—it’s in the classroom.

At the Career Academy, Rud utilizes his C10 as a hands-on teaching aid for his automotive students. By bringing his own build into the school’s state-of-the-art nine-bay lab, he provides students with a tangible example of the concepts they study in their textbooks. Students get a first-hand look at everything from suspension geometry to engine timing on a classic platform; the truck serves as a living laboratory where students can witness the nuances of custom automotive work and restoration.

The intersection of Rud’s passion and his work is why Reborn chose to feature him and the C10.

“Chantz’s C10 holds an amazing story. To him it is more than just a ‘car’ or a ‘project.’ It represents the community that has helped him over the years, the places traveled because of it and the memories made in it,” said Reborn co-founder Jared Hineman, who pointed out how the truck fits their tagline Fueling the Dreams We Grew Up On. “In our community, what Chantz is doing with the C10 at the Career Academy is not common—it’s something that is really special. He is sharing his passion with his students and it is creating an experience they won’t forget.”

The video premiered at the beginning of March on Reborn’s YouTube channel as well as on the Cars and Coffee social media accounts. Watch the video now to hear from Chantz and learn more about his Chevy C10.
