A Message from Our School Counselor

Happy SUMMER BREAK!

Together we are so much better and together we have walked through another interesting year with some twists and turns along the way.

We started out our school year together again navigating uncharted waters with some regulations still in place. We needed to use flexible thinking to achieve our goals.  We used our themes throughout this school year as we set goals and practiced, practiced, practiced what we wanted to accomplish.  We managed our feelings, got frustrated, and took breaks along the way to those goals.  We empathized with others and remembered when we may have felt those same feelings at different points in our journey.  And we used kindness and a whole lot of patience and grace to work through alternative solutions to solve problems.

As we begin our long awaited summer break, let’s not forget to continue thinking about the lessons we’ve learned this year.  We talked alot about how practicing makes us better prepared.

  • Continue to have some good routines for your child so they learn to plan to practice those things that are important. We always find time for the things we put first.

  • Take a trip to the library to continue checking out fantastically adventurous books that grow the love of reading as well as empathy through relating to others’ experiences.

Plan to keep practicing our monthly themes in your day to day living:

  • It takes courage to try new things or do things we know we’re not that good at.

  • Learn from our mistakes. It will make us wiser.

  • Give ourselves and others grace when mistakes are made.

  • Remember how others helped us when we got it right and help others.

  • Be honest-if you mess up-take ownership. Talk about what you honestly need to work on to improve.

  • Love ourselves and others enough to plan to make it better next time and celebrate each other’s accomplishments.

  • Respect ourselves, others, our environment and the journey we’re all on.  Everyone will take different routes.  Help your child find their strengths and talk about ways to use their strengths to their advantage.

Incorporating all of these teachings will truly help us become better versions of ourselves and will help our neighbors, our schools and our communities flourish.
