A Message from Our School Counselor

Fall Greetings from Ms. Shari!

Our Monthly Theme:   COURAGE

Courage means to be afraid but to summon the strength it takes to face your fear, move past it, and do the right thing.

October kicks off the first of the  “Grandfather Teachings”  we will be learning about and exemplifying all year long.  Our elders are wise because they have lived through more than we have.  They can teach us many things if we listen.  The first Grandfather's Teachings we will highlight is Courage.  The bear is the animal that represents Courage.

  • The bear provides many lessons in the way it lives, yet courage is the most important teaching it offers. Though gentle by nature, the ferociousness of a mother bear when one of her cubs is approached is the true definition of courage

  • To have the mental and moral strength to overcome fears that prevent us from living our true spirit as human beings is a great challenge that must be met with the same vigour and intensity as a mother bear protecting her cub. Living of the heart and living of the spirit is difficult, but the bear’s example shows us how to face any danger with courage to achieve these goals. Excerpts from: Dave Courchene Jr., and Cindy Crowe

Our courage theme fits well with the other activities we have planned for October.  National Red Ribbon Week is celebrated every year across the nation in October.  Red Ribbon Week is a week dedicated to promoting living a drug free life.  Here’s more information on the history of Red Ribbon Week. We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week the first week of October by wearing special clothing each day of the week to show that  “Drug Free Looks Like Me.” More information on Red Ribbon Week can be found here:  Red Ribbon Week 2021

Have the COURAGE to live your best life. Drug Free Looks Like Me!
