In a regular school year, over 38% of students at Moorhead Area Public Schools are eligible for free and reduced-price meals. These students often go without milk and snack break during their day, an important piece to help students learn at their best potential.
To help provide students with food assistance, Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation is raising funds on Giving Hearts Day, Feb. 11, 2021. Click here to donate online.
Food For Thought, a program of Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation, helps provide milk and snack break for students in need. State and national food-assistance programs do not cover the cost for elementary milk and snack break, and yet for some, this is their first "meal" of the day when breakfast is not available at home.
Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation is dedicated to supporting Moorhead students. Feeding one student a month is $20, $200 could feed a student for the entire school year. Help the foundation reach its $20,000 goal for Giving Hearts Day.
Moorhead Legacy Education Foundation anticipates more families will be struggling after mandated closures and job losses, so their goal has grown significantly. One hundred percent of donations to Food For Thought go directly to Moorhead schools to help feed the district's students experiencing food insecurity.
