Principal Message

SGR Families,

As I’m sure you all heard last week, we have a few changes happening throughout the district. But in case you didn’t hear, I will be the lead principal at Robert Asp Elementary next year, while Mrs. Nagel will return to SGR in the lead principal role! I’ll save my big goodbye and thank you for one of our last weekly emails, but wanted to make sure everyone knew about the leadership changes for next year. In the meantime, we’re going to continue working hard to finish the year strong, which is our monthly theme for May. As for this week’s note, it’s VERY full so bear with me:

  • Student Information Form: Every year we share this OPTIONAL form that any parent can fill out if they’d like to provide us with some information to help guide our student placements next year. As we always say, we DISCOURAGE requesting specific teachers for multiple reasons. However, we love and appreciate any information that you think we might find helpful as we build our rosters. We work closely with our teachers as well, and together we’ll take all information into consideration as we build balanced classrooms.

  • Boundary Exceptions: The boundary exception form needs to be completed annually, so if you are here on a boundary exception and would like to be considered for one again next school year, you’d need to visit the enrollment page on the district website to complete that form.

  • Save the Dates: Our All-City Track Meet for 4th graders is Wednesday, May 17 from 9:45 am to 1:45 pm. Our All-Building Field Day for K-3rd graders is Friday, May 19 during those grades’ regular Specials Times. Parents are welcome at each event. Watch for more information coming home with your child in the near future.

  • No Rescheduling Events: We’re hoping for sunny and warm weather every day in May because we will NOT be able to reschedule any events. There are too many moving pieces and not enough people to cover all of those moving pieces, which means that if weather prevents any field trip or event from happening as scheduled it will be canceled. We want all events to happen so we’ll do our best, but want everyone to be aware it’s a possibility ahead of time.

  • Walk/Bike/Roll to School Day: This Wednesday is National Walk/Bike/Roll to School Day! Check out this short 2 minute video from Mrs. Hayes with ways we’re working to make this a fun event on Wednesday!

  • Lunch Notes: First, linked is the summer lunch schedule, including times/locations. Second, this week is also Lunch Hero Week! Kitchen staff throughout the district will be having a week of dress up days and would love kids to participate if interested. Days are as follows:

    • Mon: PJ day

    • Tue: Produce Day (dress like your favorite fruit/vegetable)

    • Wed: Wacky Tacky Wednesday (dress wacky)

    • Thu: Throwback Thursday

    • Fri: Super Hero Day (t-shirts/hats, no masks or costumes)

If you made it this far, congratulations! I apologize for all of the information this week, but we want to continue doing our best to keep our families informed. Remember, if you have any questions, please check the website or reach out to your child’s teacher because those are your best bets to get the information you need.

It’s going to be an awesome week!

Mr. St. Louis, principal
