Horizon News

Hello Horizon Students and Families!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year at Horizon Middle School! We hope you have enjoyed the summer break and are as excited as we are about the upcoming school year! It has been a busy summer at Horizon as our new administration team has been planning and preparing to welcome students back on Monday, August 29.

Our district vision this year is ‘We are Spuds. We are _____.’ At Horizon Middle School as a Spud, we are unique, connected, and growing. Our goal is to embrace students where they are to help them grow, celebrate their uniqueness, help them discover a sense connectedness to the Spud family and work together to become the best they can be. We will continue to support students' through our small learning communities which enables us to get to know all of our students personally, their individual uniqueness, and support them by providing a connected, safe, caring, and positive environment.

Students will receive enhanced educational programming and the opportunity to explore music, language, and other classes that they can continue to pursue beyond middle school. In addition, we will encourage students to participate in any number of activities and athletics to build their confidence, their own community, and their connection to school. The benefits of exploring multiple classes and participating in activities is that it creates a pathway to success to high school and beyond.

I truly believe a partnership between school and home encourages each student to achieve more and strive for success as they build their pathway to success. Attendance and engagement are two critical factors to students' success. PowerSchool is a great tool to check in on students' attendance and how they are doing in their classes. Schoology is our new online platform that will  be utilized this year by all teachers for course information, class assignments, and materials. This will allow students and families to see what is going on in the classrooms and support students when they miss school.

We are Spuds and We are Connected!  We appreciate you entrusting your students to us for their middle school experience. Our Administration team cannot wait to welcome all of our Spuds back to school!  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

As always, it's a great day to be a SPUD!
