Back to school

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Horizon Middle School! It has been a busy summer at Horizon as our new administration team has been planning and preparing to welcome students back on Monday, August 30. Please review the MAPS Safe Return to In Person Learning previously sent and continue to read below for important information for this upcoming year.

Our district vision this year is ‘Building Pathways to Success.’ At Horizon Middle School, this means we will continue to build upon students' foundation from elementary school and prepare them for high school and beyond. We will do that through our small learning communities, which enables us to get to know all of our students personally and support them by providing a safe, caring, and positive environment. Students will receive enhanced educational programming and the opportunity to explore music, language, and other classes that they can continue to pursue beyond middle school. In addition, we will encourage students to participate in any number of activities and athletics to build their confidence, their own community, and their connection to school. The benefits of exploring multiple classes and participating in activities is that it creates a pathway to success to high school and beyond.

I truly believe a partnership between school and home encourages each student to achieve more and strive for success as they build their pathway to success. Attendance and engagement are two critical factors to students' success. PowerSchool is a great tool to check in on students' attendance and how they are doing in their classes. PowerSchool Learning pages will continue to be utilized this year by all teachers for course information, class assignments, and materials. This will allow students and families to see what is going on in the classrooms and support students when they miss school.

I cannot wait to welcome all of our Spuds back to school!  Our Horizon Middle School team appreciates you entrusting your students to us for their middle school experience.  We are thankful to be a part of every Spud’s path to success!  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

As always, it's a great day to be a SPUD!
