Message from counselor

My name is Lucas Demarais and I am the School Counselor at Ellen Hopkins Elementary. This is my second year at Ellen Hopkins, but I have been in various education roles around the Fargo/Moorhead area for about 6 years. My role as a school counselor is to improve all students’ success by teaching and supporting students with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.  These opportunities ensure students are able to receive equitable career and social/emotional developmental needs. I reinforce these services to connect to the Moorhead Area Public Schools' mission statement of “developing the maximum potential of every learner to thrive in a changing world”.

Through these services, students are able to implement academic achievement strategies such as goal setting or working through the needs and challenges they may face throughout their school year and their personal lives. My role as a school counselor is to provide awareness and resources for students and their families regarding mental health, social, and emotional needs. This includes different resources based on what students and families need in a variety of situations and circumstances. I am able to provide short-term counseling services for students to explore strengths and passions based on their individual personalities and skill sets. My role is also to improve equity, access, achievement, and opportunities so every student can build and develop the tools and skills to bring out the best in themselves every day.

I look forward to serving you this year as your child’s School Counselor. Feel free to reach out with any questions, concerns, or inquiries regarding mental health services throughout the 2022-2023 school year. I would love to help in any way I can!
