The Week Ahead

Greetings Ellen Hopkins Families!

Reminders:

We will have early out days tomorrow Friday, October 9 and Wednesday, October 14. Students will be done at 12:30 and buses will run two hours early. Please be prepared to pick student up at 12:30 or know they will arrive home two hours before their typical drop of time.

There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, October 15th and Friday, October 16th.

Homecoming Parade: The homecoming parade is on Friday, October 9 at 3 pm. Hope to see you there as we all celebrate being Spuds!

Absences: We know that families may have things planned around our fall break next week. Please note that you must report each absence to our front office the day of the absence. You can report using Powerschool or call our attendance line at 218-284-4300. Unreported absences will be marked as unexcused and we cannot adjust them after 48 hours. We appreciate your help on this!

Ellen Hopkins WalkAThon: Happening NOW

We are in the middle of our fall PTAC fundraiser, the Ellen Hopkins WalkAThon! You should have received a link to share with family and friends to get pledges to support your student and our school. If you don't have the link for your student, follow this link and you can search for your child: Hopkins Walk-A-Thon: Pledge here: https://app.99pledges.com/

WalkAThon Event: Our WalkAThon event will be on Tuesday, October 13 during each grades' specials time. Families are welcome to come and cheer students on out at the track.

Penny War: We are also excited to share that we will be hosting a Penny War from Oct 8-13 as part of our WalkAThon. Parents and families members are welcome to add to the grade level pots before and after school, during the WalkAThon and at the fall movie night. Look for a flier in your child's backpack/take home folder with more details!

October PTAC Meeting: Join us on Monday, October 12 for our PTAC Meeting at 6 pm. Help make our school amazing!

PTAC Fall Movie Night: We will also be celebrating our whole school with a movie night on October 13 from 5:30-7:30pm, put on by our Parent Teacher Advisory Committee. We hope to see lots of families there!

Executive Function Skill of the Week:

Pausing and Managing Big Feelings

The skill: Stopping before acting and handling strong emotions.

  • Model the pause. Take three slow breaths out loud before you respond to something frustrating. Children copy what they see far more than what they’re told.

  • Name the feeling. “It looks like you’re disappointed that screen time is over.” Naming lowers the temperature; correcting raises it.

  • Build a reset spot. A corner with pillows, books, or a squeeze toy that your child chooses to use. Not a punishment place. If it’s ever used as one, it stops working.

  • Expect the skill to be uneven. A child who can wait beautifully at 4 p.m. may have nothing left at 7 p.m. That’s normal brain development, not backsliding.

Permanent School Fund FACT – Zero Tax Impact

Let’s talk taxes: this constitutional amendment will NOT raise your taxes.

Because funding comes directly from returns on state-held lands and investments, it provides dedicated support for education without impacting property taxes, income taxes, or local tax rates. Visit our ISD 152 Permanent School Fund webpage!

Please call or stop by if you have any questions! We are here to help!

Have an awesome homecoming weekend and we will see you on Monday!
