The Week Ahead

Hello Hopkins Families:

Annual PTAC Coupon Book Fundraiser: Our PTAC Fundraiser has begun! Please visit with your child about how your family can help support Ellen Hopkins Elementary. All money earned goes directly back into supporting our students and staff! The coupon books sell for $20 each and have hundreds of dollars worth of free items and many money saving coupons! The fundraiser runs through October 31! Thanks for supporting our school!

Success Tip of The Week: Talking is Learning! 📚

Talking and listening play major roles in children's school success. It's through hearing parents and family members talk and through responding to that talk that young children begin to pick up the language skills they will need if they are to do well. For example, children who don't hear a lot of talk and who aren't encouraged to talk themselves often have problems learning to read, which can lead to other school problems. In addition, children who haven't learned to listen carefully often have trouble following directions and paying attention in class. Things to Note:

Picture Retakes on Thursday, October 30th:

  • Retakes will take place at the school first thing in the morning! If you need your child to take retakes, please ensure they are to school on time so they don't miss the opportunity.

  • This is the perfect time for students (and staff) that didn't take a school photo the first time around!

  • Students taking retakes need to return their original packet of photos during the picture session! This ensures no delays in your photos being reprinted.

  • Families that want to order more photos or forgot to order the first time can use this Order Link.

PINK OUT: Please join us in wearing PINK on Tuesday, October 28 to honor the people impacted by breast cancer. We want to show our support for past and present Hopkins teammates who have been impacted by breast cancer. 🩷

Reminders:

October 31: We ask that families refrain from sending students in costumes or wearing masks or other Halloween items. We also ask that candy not be sent as a snack. Thank you!

TO DO:

Personalized Learning Plans: Your student has a new document in Student Documents in PowerSchool. This document is called the PLP, which stands for Personalized Learning Plan. It shows how your student scored on the assessment called Fastbridge in September, including reading and math scores, along with a goal for the year.

  • The 'Typical Growth Goal' means that to stay on grade level, the student will make one year’s worth of growth.

  • The 'Aggressive Growth Goal' means that we will work with your student to achieve more than a year’s worth of growth to reach grade-level learning.

Please open the document, read through it, and sign by clicking this link to say you have read the document and agree to the goal we set for your student. Your partnership is appreciated!

Safety and Security Survey

We’re halfway through the Moorhead Area Public Schools Safety & Security Survey, and we need your voice! This survey is part of the district’s ongoing Safety & Security Audit conducted by Zeal Education Group. The feedback from our Ellen Hopkins Elementary community will directly influence district and building-level safety improvements.

If you haven’t yet, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts before the survey closes on October 27. Complete the survey now by clicking the link. Thank you for helping make our school a safer, stronger place for students and staff.

PowerSchool Registration: Due Yearly: Make sure to complete PowerSchool Registration for the 25-26 school year as soon as possible. Our goal is to have 100% completion. Please help us reach our goal! Log into your PowerSchool account and complete for each child. If you need help with your log in and password, feel free to call our front office at 218-284-4300.

Activities and Resources in the Area: Please check out this list of activities and resources available in our community this month. You can find out more about everything from free family activities to food banks and learning opportunities.

Upcoming Referendum: What happens if only one ballot question passes?

If one question passes and the other fails, funds from the approved levy can't be shifted to cover the needs of the failed levy. If one fails, the district would need to move forward with some budget reductions.

Passing just one levy would provide some support for our schools, but would also leave financial gaps. Together, the two levies provide a balanced and comprehensive plan to stabilize our budget and protect education. For answers to more frequently asked questions, visit Vote152.org/faqs
