Lacey Julsrud (third from right) with Ellen Hopkins leadership after receiving the Spud Spirit Award

Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak presented Lacey Julsrud with the district’s Spud Spirit Award for December 2023. Lacey is a Student Support Facilitator and Indian Education Liaison serving Ellen Hopkins Elementary. She is in her third year with the district.

“Lacey, you were nominated for this award by multiple people,” explained Dr. Lunak, making a surprise appearance at Hopkins to give her the award, “which goes to show how many lives you positively affect.”

In Lacey’s nominations, she was praised for her selflessness and her tireless work in support of her students and families. One nominator said she “is an amazing advocate for students and is the person in their corner cheering them on.” Another said, “Lacey goes above and beyond with the students and families that she serves. Helping parents be successful is a huge focus of the work that she does and she understands that families just need a hand up to get them to where they need to be.”

Lacey’s work as a Student Support Facilitator and Indian Education Liaison gets to the heart of the district's mission to develop the maximum potential of every student.
