Snake art

Carla Smith, principal at Ellen Hopkins, reached out to Em Christie, volunteer with FargoMoorhead Rocks, earlier this summer about installing and creating a rock snake with the students. Em then reached out to artist Barbara Dunn to support the project and paint the snake head. (She gave it a crown of flowers so it wouldn't be a scary snake!)

As Ellen Hopkins students came to back to school night, many young artists (and a couple of grown ups!) painted a piece of the rock snake body that is now placed at the main entrance of the school for all Ellen Hopkins students and families to see as they enter the building. These artists have created a collaborative piece that can continue to grow as more people add their art.

This is one of the many ways rock painting can bring people together. It's a creative expression, therapeutic, and public art all in one!

THANK YOU Ellen Hopkins students for creating the rock snake. Over 100 rocks were painted!

THANK YOU Em for organizing this event with Carla and supporting the families with their artwork at back to school night.

THANK YOU Barbara Dunn for painting such a beautiful, welcoming snake head.
