Preschoolers with Peers

In Early Learning, we are excited to see our students and teams settling into the routines of school as we focus on building relationships with students and families and teaching classroom expectations. Throughout this year, we will be working in our classrooms, and with Spud families to develop routines, to support student’s social interactions and problem-solving skills!  At Moorhead Schools Early Learning, we have many strategies we use when trying to solve a problem with a peer, including:

1. Ask nicely;

2. Say “please stop”;

3. Play together, share, take turns, trade;

4. Get a timer; or

5. Get a teacher/adult.

These strategies are from The Pyramid Model for Promoting Social-Emotional Competence. The Pyramid Model is a conceptual framework of evidence-based practices for promoting young children’s healthy social and emotional development through nurturing and responsive relationships, supportive environments, social-emotional supports, and interventions. Check out the About Pyramid letter included here; and be on the lookout for a weekly program update throughout the month of October from our Pyramid Team!
