Counselor's Corner

                                                                         Introducing Your School Counselor

                                                                                          Mrs. Tanya Stuhaug

Welcome to Dorothy Dodds Elementary!!  Here at Dorothy Dodds Elementary, the school counselor provides the following:

  •  Individual & Small Group Counseling--to enhance developmental areas such as coping skills, friendship skills, anger management skills, study skills and self esteem.

  • Counseling support for students experiencing a crisis.

  • Referrals to community services.

  • Consultation with staff and parents regarding student’s emotional, academic, or behavior concerns.

  • Classroom Guidance Lessons that teach skills such as healthy decision making, resolving conflicts and respecting others.

School Counselors believe that:  1.  Children learn the best when they feel good about themselves and their relationships with others.  2.  Children who understand their feelings are better able to control their behavior.  3.  Attitudes formed during elementary school shape future attitudes toward learning, self and society.

How Does a Student See the School Counselor?

Students can tell their teacher that they would like to speak to the counselor.

Parents and families can refer their child by stopping by the office and asking to speak to the school counselor, sending a note to school, or by contacting Mrs. Stuhaug at 218-284-1312 or tanyastuhaug@moorheadschools.org.

Teachers or other school staff may refer students by talking directly with the school counselor.
