Greetings of “Eid Mubarak!” were in the air as over 2,000 community members gathered in two services for the Eid Al-Adha Celebration hosted at Dorothy Dodds Elementary on June 28. Eid Al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two main holidays in the Islamic faith. From all around the Fargo-Moorhead area, families came together to share the joyous occasion with one another.
Moorhead Area Public Schools is grateful for the cultures, countries, languages and religions that are represented throughout the over seven thousand students that call MAPS home. Dorothy Dodds Elementary school alone embraces K-4 students from 29 different countries and is proud to welcome them to school with flags from their home countries and welcome messages in their heart language.
MAPS Director of Equity and Inclusion, Matuor Alier, attended the celebration. In his remarks of the event, he stated, "It was a privilege to open our doors to the Fargo-Moorhead Islamic community, joining them in celebrating this significant festival.” Alier continued, “It was an honor to be part of such a remarkable celebration, and we hope that the spirit of unity and love experienced during Eid-Al-Adha continues to inspire us all."
