Robert Asp Weekly Family Note

Asp Families,

Happy Sunday! Thank you to everyone who came to Asp the last two weeks for some of our main family engagement events, namely Donuts w/ Grownups and our Walk-a-thon!!! It was incredibly awesome to see so many of you at these events. Your kids loved it, too, which was great to see and one of the goals. As we noted at Donuts, our goal is the success of your kids, and one major piece of that is through our supportive and collaborative relationships with you! So thank you!!! A couple more notes for the week:

  • Weekly Focus: This week we’ll focus on De-Bugging, which is our student friendly way of teaching kids how to solve and/or keep problems small. We’ll be talking about the 5 steps to debugging, which are: Ignore, Move Away, Talk Friendly, Talk Firmly, and Talk to an Adult.

  • At-Home Literacy Link: Starting this week we’ll include an At-Home Literacy Link each week in our email. Generally we’ll try to vary the link each week and will include a mix of articles to read, activities to complete with your child, a video to watch, and helpful websites to visit. Our first one of the year is a link to the Florida Center for Reading Research.

  • Orange Shirt Wednesday: This Wednesday is Orange Shirt Day and we’re encouraging everyone to wear an orange shirt that day if they have one!!

  • PTAC: As noted above, a huge thank you to everyone who came out for and/or supported our Walk-a-Thon financially! We’ll update numbers at our upcoming PTAC meeting (Tue, Oct 13, 5:30 pm)

  • StoryPalooza: Our annual StoryPalooza event is coming up soon so get it on your calendar. Thursday, October 8, from 5:30-7:00 pm. More info to come in the near future!

  • Conferences: Conferences are later this year (Oct 27, Oct 29, Nov 5) and are all in the evening (4:00-7:30 pm). Next week you’ll get a link to sign up for a day and time that works best for you.

Thanks again for all the support! Have a great week!
