Asp Families,
Happy Sunday! It’s starting to feel a little more like fall, with some cooler temps in the morning. Please keep that in mind when your child is getting dressed for the week. Some other notes for the week:
No School: There is NO SCHOOL this Friday, September 25, throughout the school district as it is a professional development day for our teaching staff. So just a 4 day week again this week!
Donuts w/ Grownups: Last week our 3rd and 4th graders had their Donuts w/ Grownups days and it was awesome! We saw so many parents, trusted adults, etc and we can’t thank you enough for making it a special morning! This week we’ll have our grades K-2 events (see below):
In the cafeteria:
2nd grade → 8:00-8:30 AM
21st: Carney & Zens
22nd: Sperr & Gebhart
1st grade → 8:00-8:30 AM
23rd: Mathes, Quanbeck, Wohler
24th: Schroeder & Stromstad
In their classrooms:
Kindergarten → 1:30-2:00 PM
24th: Anderson, Brendemuhl, Grant, Mocol, Monroe
Robert Asp Walk-a-Thon: Let’s Swing Into Action! Our annual Walk-a-Thon is THIS week on Thursday, September 24! Right now the weather looks decent, but there is a chance for rain so please monitor that this week. As for the Walk-a-Thon itself, students will walk during their specials time and one additional time during the school day. Parents are welcome to join their child during their scheduled walking times! Last year, our school community raised $12,000, helping us purchase three used swing sets instead of one. This year, we’re working toward another $12,000 goal to purchase the new swings those sets need. Any extra funds will support other playground equipment! Students can ask family, friends, and people they know to support their walk. Donate online here by searching for your child’s teacher—not your child’s name. Please include the teacher’s name when sharing the link with others. Donations are accepted through Friday, September 25. Not only that, but there are fun rewards, too! The top fundraising class in each grade earns a party, the top three student fundraisers schoolwide win prizes, and the class with the most laps in each grade earns a prize. Thank you for helping bring more swings, smiles, and fun to our playground!
Weekly Focus: This week we’re talking in classrooms about Personal Space, or our bubbles in which we feel most comfortable and safe. We’ll talk about how everyone’s personal space can be different, along with some strategies for sharing our space needs with others while honoring theirs!
Help from Home: We’re looking for a little help from home in a couple of ways. First, we had a number of tired kids last Thursday and Friday, which wasn’t unexpected given it was only the third week of school and our first five day week of the year. For some kids the amount of sleep they got (or didn’t get) played a role in it. Making sure your child is in bed and getting 9-11 hours of sleep every night will help them be their best learners. Second, we’re starting to collect sweatshirts in our Lost & Found. If you could write your child’s last name in their tags, it helps them find the correct homes! Finally, please remind your child that they shouldn’t be bringing any toys from home to school (and check backpacks if needed). If classrooms are going to have an event in their class in which students can bring something from home (like a Stuffy/Reading Day), they’ll share that with you ahead of time.
StoryPalooza: Our annual StoryPalooza event is coming up soon so get it on your calendar. Thursday, October 8, from 5:30-7:00 pm. More info to come in the near future!
Let’s make it another great week!
