Robert Asp Weekly Family Note

Asp Families,

Happy Sunday! It’s the first of about 40 Sunday emails we’ll send to all families of Robert Asp students this year. You can expect one every Sunday at 3 pm from now until the end of the school year, other than maybe during winter break. Our goal is to provide an overview of information, events, etc., that are important and pertinent to everyone with children in the building. Classroom teachers will share information that impacts families with kids in their classrooms and grades, which means they’ll always be your best resource for classroom specifics. Different teachers have different communication plans, so look for that information as you meet your child’s teacher this week at Back-to-School! Some additional notes this week:

  • Robert Asp PTAC: Our Parent-Teacher Committee, Asp PTAC, is looking for some donations to help some students and families start the year with necessary supplies/snacks by hosting a Snack/Supply Drive! If you are able to donate, it would be greatly appreciated! They’ll have a table set up in the main lobby on Wednesday during Back-to-School. Some items of note include:

    • Individually wrapped snacks, like: Goldfish, Scooby Snacks, Veggie Straws, Smart Pop Popcorn, Pirate’s Booty, Annie’s crackers, Ritz snack packs, Teddy Grahams, and more!

    • Classroom items, like: Plastic bags (snack, sandwich, quart, and gallon sized) and Clorox wipes, along with anything else on the school supply list.

    • Elementary Activity Fees: MAPS asks all elementary families across the district to contribute $10 for their child’s Activity Fee. These fees help cover the cost of a variety of activities at each grade level every year.

    • Pampered Chef Fundraiser: PTAC is also hosting a Pampered Chef Fundraiser to support our activities at the school. Here is the shopping link to order!

  • Powerschool: As we noted last Friday morning, Powerschool is the main website to access for all things school related. Complete your registration to start the year, enter absences throughout the year, and other important information are found here (classroom teacher, Back-to-School conference time). If you haven’t yet visited the website, please do so today!

  • Back-to-School: This Wednesday, August 26, is our Back-to-School Day! This is an awesome day in which you and your child can meet their teacher and bring in your school supplies. We strongly encourage all families to bring their supplies next week because it makes the first day of school much smoother if your child doesn’t have to worry about hauling all of them that day. It’s also a great opportunity to see the classroom, start building a relationship with the teacher, meet some classmates, and explore the school! All first through fourth grade families have a group conference time in the afternoon (30 minute chunks of time between 12:45-3:45), which are great opportunities to visit with your child’s teacher. Kindergarten students have 1:1 conference times both in the morning (9:45-11:45) and in the afternoon (12:45-3:45). We worked hard to put families with multiple kids in the afternoon so you only need to make one trip here with your kids. If your time doesn’t work you can either call the office and try to reschedule for a different time OR you can just attend the open house time from 4:30-6:00 pm. Students and families are welcome to attend either time, but you don’t need to attend both. Again, please check your child’s specific time in Powerschool.

  • Roster Movement: As noted above, most students have a homeroom teacher listed in Powerschool. For the majority of students, that will remain the same this week and into next. But we also want everyone to be aware of the fact that as families move in and out of the district, we continue to work to keep our classes as balanced as possible in a variety of ways. All of that is to say that there is a slight possibility that homeroom teachers could still change prior to our Back-to-School Day next week, so be sure to check PowerSchool for possible changes.

We can’t wait to see all of you on Wednesday!!
