ASP Weekly Family Note

Asp Families,

Happy May! As hard as it is to believe, we’ve hit the last month of school. Four weeks left to learn and grow before heading into a long summer. It goes without saying, but May is full of activities. We’ll try to share as many as we can in our weekly emails, but please, check communication from your child’s teacher because they’ll have the most accurate information for you. Many events are in our building calendar online or in the app as well. Okay, let’s get to it!

  • Late Start: Our last planned late start is this Wednesday, May 7. Buses will pick up two hours late, doors will open two hours late, but the end of the day will remain the same.

  • Staff Appreciation Week: This week is STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK! Thank a staff member if you can for the love, kindness, and compassion they’ve shown to your child this school year. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, we have 600 children to raise led by a village of 100 adults, each of whom has a unique role in your child’s life at school. We cannot thank them enough for how amazing they are!

  • Freaky Friday: This Friday we’ll have a dress up to celebrate staff! We’re doing a Freaky Friday day - staff will dress like kids, and kids should dress like staff! So dress like your favorite teacher, custodian, or any other staff member this Friday!

  • Weekly Focus: Our focus this week, beyond appreciating our staff, is confidence. We’ll be talking about believing in ourselves, being our unique selves, not being afraid to make mistakes, and in general building our confidence muscles!

  • PTAC: It’s a busy week of PTAC events and notes:

    • PTAC Meeting: This Monday, May 5, from 6-7 pm at Swing Barrel. Stop by, we’d love to see you!

    • Potato Bar: This Wednesday, May 7. Help celebrate staff with a potato bar! Sign up here if you can help out.

    • Nothing Bundt Cake Fundraiser: Read this flier and then help raise money for PTAC in a tasty way! Sign up here to help out!

    • Asp Musical: The Asp Musical, sponsored by PTAC, will have 2 shows on Saturday, May 17. If you would be willing to help with concessions, please sign up here!

    • BOGO Book Fair: PTAC will be hosting a BOGO (buy one, get one) Book Fair the last week of school! More info to come, but we want it on your radar.

  • Student Placement: Every year we share this OPTIONAL form that any parent can fill out if they’d like to provide us with some information to help guide our student placements next year. As we always say, we DISCOURAGE requesting specific teachers for multiple reasons. However, we love and appreciate any information that you think we might find helpful as we build our rosters. We work closely with our teachers as well, and together we’ll take all information into consideration as we build balanced classrooms.

  • Boundary Exceptions: If you are attending Asp on a Boundary Exception and would like to continue doing so, you’ll need to complete this form. If Asp is your natural boundary school, though, you do NOT need to complete this.

  • Book Rally Week: Rally Week is May 12-16, and our goal is to have all 1,028 currently checked out books returned by that time! Click this link for more information about Rally Week!

  • Home After School: If your child walks home after school, please remind them to head home right after school and check-in with you, rather than stay and hang out on the playground. They are more than welcome to come right back and use the playground, but we’d first like them to touch base with you. Thanks!

  • Events This Week:

    • 4th grade will be going to the Hjemkomst

    • 3rd grade will be visiting the planetarium

    • 2nd grade will be visiting the farm

If you made it this far, congratulations! That was a lot to get through, but we hope you found it helpful! It’s going to be another amazing week!
