Brittany Escobedo receives her award from Dr. Lunak, with Josh St. Louis and Lauren Knutson

Moorhead Area Public Schools superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak visited Robert Asp Elementary School to present Brittany Escobedo with the Spud Spirit Award for March 2024. Mrs. Escobedo is in her eighth year as a special educator with the district.

Dr. Lunak, joined by the Robert Asp leadership team, surprised Brittany with the award in her classroom, telling her “our committee selected you based on the best kind of nomination: one from the family of one of your students.”

“Your nominator described you as an amazing educator who takes the time to get to know her students in the Special Services program,” Dr. Lunak continued. “They praised how you are loving and welcoming to all of your students and their families—taking the time to greet everyone with a smile every day.”

Brittany’s nominator also shared a story: “Some things can be a challenge for my child due to her diagnosis and Mrs. Escobedo is very calm and caring. When my child was having a rough day and needed some time to regulate, she gave that time.”

Her positive attitude and tireless commitment to her students and their needs are a strong example of the district's mission to develop the maximum potential of every student.
