Teacher Feature: Meet JoAnn McFarlin
“I believe there is an artist in everyone,” states JoAnn McFarlin, Community Education mosaics teacher. JoAnn moved to Moorhead in June of 2023 and began teaching six months later. She brought a passion for glass on glass mosaics with her and Moorhead Community Education provided a great place to share her talents.
A friend gifted JoAnn with stained glass and all of the tools needed, so she experimented with glass on glass mosaic. She loved the results and sharing the creative skills with others. “I like finding uses for scrap glass and recycling what I can,” she explained. Beyond creating masterpieces, JoAnn enjoys reading, watching movies and spending time with friends and family.
JoAnn creates a calm, relaxing classroom environment, and enjoys discovering new techniques of mosaics to pass along to her students. Her classes are easy to follow, and participants leave with a completed beautiful piece of art.
