AmeriCorps VISTA Breanna Lang with Nephew Noah and Niece Ally

AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that provides individuals from diverse backgrounds and ages to dedicate a year of full-time service with an organization. A VISTA creates or expands upon programs that empower, engage, and mentor individuals and communities in overcoming poverty.

The Adult Basic Education Center AmeriCorps VISTA for the 2021-22 school year is Breanna Lang. She has grown up in the Fargo-Moorhead area and recently graduated from Concordia College in the Spring of 2020. Breanna graduated with a degree in Communications and Global Studies and is currently seeking a master's degree in Social Work. She loves listening to podcasts, walking her two dogs, and trying to keep her fish blueberry alive (which is especially difficult with an oversized curious cat). Breanna has a passion for this growing community and is excited to work with the diverse group of students and staff at ABE.

Like many others, she has adapted to the pandemic and is looking forward to working with the existing distance learning programs at ABE. There is great potential for more online learning for students through the use of Chromebooks. Also, there are exciting events and programs surrounding family and community education and many more collaborations to happen in the future with local organizations. Breanna is looking forward to working with the Lake Agassiz Regional Library for more Literacy Events like The Book Truck. Aside from the Adult Basic Education Center, an amazing opportunity that Moorhead Public Schools offers is Community Education courses and events. A class Breanna is the most excited about is the American Sign Language and Personal Finance for Young Adults. Even more exciting is that these two courses and many others are located at Vista.
